Wedding Jams, Part 3: Ribes’ Rogues’ Gallery and the Final Result

Having explained how my wedding jam-making process developed in the last two posts, this third one is just taking a look at the three additional flavors I did in tiny batches. The majority of my fruit donors had blackcurrants and redcurrants, since those are the most commonly grown in Finnish yards. They have the most uses and a family can easily go through a whole crop over a winter, if they are made into juices and jams. There are also a few not-as-common ribes that I was allowed to harvest — whitecurrants and gooseberries. They all produced very different-looking and different-tasting jams, which …

Wedding Jams, Part 2: Redcurrant Rhapsody

Next up after the blackcurrants were the redcurrants. In Finland, these are usually used in desserts, while the blackcurrants are usually juiced. Both are not so often made into jam, apparently. I ended up trading some with a coworker for her apple jam and her kids were excited by the novelty of it. With such gorgeous translucent color, you can see why they are often used for decorating cakes. As with the previous recipe, I used a 1:1 ratio of fruit to sugar. So in went about 1 kilo of frozen berries. Time lapse of berries cooking down and releasing …

Wedding Jams, Part 1: The Blackcurrant Edition

Flashback time! This post is technically from 2011, but since I took these photos in the middle of being a one-woman wedding production team, I didn’t so much get around to writing it up back then. One month went by, then another… you know how procrastination snowballs. Then last month, I gave a friend some homemade jam and she mentioned that she’d really like to get into canning. I was all, “I have a post about tha… oh, wait, I DON’T.” So it’s time we fix that, eh? This was the homemade blackcurrant jam I did for wedding favors back in autumn …

Gallery of a costume change wedding.

This gallery contains 39 photos.

So a little less than a year ago, I posted some early pictures of dress choices for our wedding. Of course, I knew at the time that there would be more than one (or even two) dresses, since Asian weddings just don’t work that way. Combine that with my wardrobe mistress background and the help of several lovely attendants, and you have a costume change wedding. Selected photos from the event and some dress pictures, mostly because people have asked. I’m still in the process of putting up the official gallery website with all the guest photos, so hopefully this …

Cleaning out my wedding bookmarks. Civil ceremony dress edition.

This gallery contains 24 photos.

I just decided last night on what I’d be wearing for this one. It’s in the afternoon on the day before the church event, so there’s a lot more room to wiggle. My criteria were: (1) knee-length-ish, (2) more casual, (3) lace, and (4) different silhouette from other two. It actually took really long to shop, because there were so many more options for this kind of stuff. Almost every store has something, while you can eliminate a large chunk of stores when shopping for long, fancy gowns. So these are the runners up, in gallery form with links in …

Cleaning out my wedding bookmarks. Bridesmaid gown edition.

Once the main gown was figured out, everything else got much easier. I knew what silhouettes to look for and what colors (if there wasn’t an option for aubergine, it didn’t advance beyond the first cut) to match, so it was merely a case of finding something that would work for all the girls. Even then, there weren’t very many fitting concerns, really, other than some varying bust sizes. These girls would look good in burlap sacks, truth be told. So it was a lot of fun getting to shop for them. A Bill Levkoff number that was vetoed on …

Cleaning out my wedding bookmarks. Church gown edition.

This gallery contains 8 photos.

With a lot of my shopping done, I’m now getting around to deleting bookmarks for stuff that didn’t make the cut for one reason or another. They’re still pretty, though, so I figured it’d be nice to put them here as a little memento of several late night hours spent dress hunting. This will be the post of eye candy from the search for the church gown. Yes, I’m making distinctions because there are several wardrobe changes involved 🙂 Actually, this was my first choice but I only found the picture originally on TheKnot and then wasn’t able to track …

Evening gowns gone wild.

Right. So I was doing a bit of reception dress shopping last week. Because it wouldn’t be my wedding without a few wardrobe changes, naturally. I found a dress, by the by. I ordered it and it should arrive next month. But that is not really the subject of this post. The subject is, rather, the pages and pages of crazy stuff that I had to flip through in order to find the pretty stuff. Like, really, you have to wonder how some of this stuff even got produced. But don’t take my word for it, see for yourself… (with …

Wedding planning stuff, part 1.

This gallery contains 8 photos.

So, as most of you probably know by now, I’m in the midst of planning for our upcoming fall wedding. I’ve been talking to people here and there, but it’s getting hard to keep track of who has seen which pictures I’ve put up over the course of all my research and shopping. So to remedy this, I’ll start putting up my design planning stuff here and the finalized event plans on our more official wedding page. This way, I can share the pretty pictures with all my friends who can’t make it out to Europe due to distance/cost/what-have-you. First …

Wedding blues.

Currently have the Swedish royal wedding on the television, at the boy’s request. Am highly disappointed by Victoria’s dress — I think I saw the same thing at David’s Bridal a few weeks ago. It’s one of those “available to alter and have home by Friday!” types. No, actually, I take that back. That combination of the off-the-shoulder band of fabric with the additional little cap sleeves *under* it? Probably last seen in the mid 90’s. In junior high. Am I being cruel? Yeah, probably. But only because she could have done so much better. Especially given the apparently controversial …
