Lush Oatifix Fresh Face Mask

This, you guys, is awesome stuff. Remember those OMGHIVESONMYFACE moments I talked about a while back? Yeah, I had one recently while testing out an as-yet-to-be-reviewed serum. Like, seriously, I ended up giving myself an unintentional chemical peel, my face was so blotchy, red and gross. Like a sunburn, only I hadn’t really been outside enough for one of those. Given, I suspect this was the result of pregnancy-related oversensitivity, hence why I haven’t officially reviewed the product that caused it yet. So anyway, there I was, staring at the mirror and wondering what I could possibly do to …

Lush Full of Grace Facial Serum

This funny-looking thing is a facial serum, Lush’s Full of Grace. It is probably the most un-serumy serum I’ve ever tried, and actually the first one that I’ve gone to the bother of purchasing on my own. It was probably the unorthodox presentation that led me to buy it in the first place, since I tend to have magpie tendencies for cosmetics in odd formats. The ingredients list sounded interesting, too – murumuru and cupuacu butters (like palm and cocoa butter, but not), calamine, rose petal infusion, almond oil, rose oil and portabello mushrooms. Mushrooms, really? They say it has skin-protecting vitamins and …

Hotel Chocolat’s Cocoa Juvenate Hand & Body Lotion

This stuff has been my lotion obsession for the past year. At £17 for a 290mL bottle, it’s probably not the best habit for my pocketbook, but it just makes me so happy whenever I use it. Still less guilt-inducing than when I occasionally cave for a bottle of Molton Brown, I suppose. I first ran across it when we were out in London last spring for a friend’s wedding. We stopped into Hotel Chocolat to get some gifts for family and friends and I was surprised to find that they had started making a bath and body product line. I …

Dennis Gross MD Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel

I like shopping. I like free samples. Over the course of my rather frequent shopping, I tend to wind up with a lot of samples. Sometimes, I even remember to use them. This column is my ode to random samples and the unpredictable results they beget. On a bad day, my face looks something like a military weapons testing field, showing all sorts of strange bumps, dents, scars and marks. This is due to an adolescence marred by some heinously bad acne, skin that’s highly allergic to a variety of cosmetic ingredients, and the boy dropping a 14-pound cat on …

Shopaholic: Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar & Purity Made Simple

Usually when a product develops a cult following, one can’t help but be suspicious of it. This is especially the case when Oprah starts recommending it, because although I liked the big O back in her young and sassy days, this new taking-over-the-world version kinda frightens me. Like Scientology. Hey, at least I don’t have to feel like I’m pimping or hawking this stuff, since it’s already made the “top 10” lists of countless magazines, stores, and other sources over the years. I’m merely adding my own little review to the mix. Luckily, I first encountered the Philosophy brand back …
