Adventures in online shopping.

So yeah, I don’t get nearly enough time online these days but when I do, it’s usually only in 10-15 minutes segments and requires that I browse stuff that is easily left at the spur of the moment should there be any crying in the other room. This has resulted in my becoming a big fan of window-shopping online. There’s lots of cute stuff out there. And lots of weird stuff, too. Right, so I realize there is a justifiable reason why this product exists. I mean, I get tired of holding bottles at 2AM, just like everybody else. And ‚Ķ

Ways to traumatize your infant.

How many of you guys remember that episode of X-Files with the icky fluke guy who had a leech-like mouth and lived in the sewers? Yeah. So I’m browsing through a site with baby paraphernalia, as I am wont to do these days, and I see this: Seriously, please tell me I’m not the only one that sees the resemblance. Maybe it’s just a particularly bad angle, but this thing terrified me when I scrolled by it. Are there people out there who really give this to their child so that baby can look like he’s French kissing a menacing ‚Ķ

Mystery Meat: Not only Spam comes in a can.

This is quite possibly one of the tastiest things that can come out of a can. One of the spendier items as well, true, but it was on the shelf and I couldn’t pass it by. I figured I could blame it on cravings. Served here with a simple side of steamed broccoli. Typically, there’d be a starch too but I wasn’t in the mood for it at the time. Just look at all that fat. If that doesn’t give it away, I don’t know what else will. It’s liquid gold, that fat. I have it sitting in the freezer ‚Ķ

Maison Belle Laundry Softness

This is the stuff I’ve been using as laundry softener lately. I saw it on the shelf while I was pricing ingredients to make my own laundry detergents and softeners, and thought I’d give it a try, as a stepping stone away from the bottles¬†of chemicals I’ve been buying. Not that I find anything particularly wrong with many of those bigger brands, and I will happily go back to them if my experimentation (still in the very beginning stages) in homemade detergent ends up being an epic fail. It’s just that we have to be more careful than most about ‚Ķ

Not so Blondie Brownie

I took a break from my fudge-centric ice cream purchases last week to try another flavor in the Core line, Blondie Brownie. The label read “A Soft Salted Caramel Core Surrounded by Chocolate & Vanilla Ice Creams with Chocolate Brownie chunks & Blondie Brownie chunks”, which sounded promising enough. Salted caramel is a close second to fudge in my list of favorite toppings of all time, and it didn’t disappoint in this tub. However, the blondies did. It was kind of weird — on the chocolate side, I dug up plenty of brownie bits (yes, I do fish out the ‚Ķ

5 Items in 9 Months -or- How I Almost Totally Avoided Buying Maternity Clothing

I like clothes. I like shopping for clothes. Heck, you don’t end up in my line of work otherwise. What I don’t like, however, is shopping for clothes that will be used so often due to lack of options¬†over a short, intense period(s) of time¬†that I will hate the very sight of them, only to have that followed by their gathering dust in the back of my closet for the rest of their lives because their single purpose for existing is done. That problem, combined with Rauma’s relative sparsity (read: NONE) of maternity boutiques, led me to find other options ‚Ķ

In which there is ice cream and flailing. (A mini Dough-ble Impact review.)

I popped by my favorite grocery store yesterday to refill my asthma meds and grab a few small items to keep us until our big supermarket binge later this week. They had moved things around since I was last there, so I spent about five minutes stalking up and down the frozen foods aisle, looking more and more perturbed with each round. There was not a single tub of Ben & Jerry’s in sight, you see. This was highly unlike them, since this is the one store that can always be counted on to have a lot of non-Finnish specialty ‚Ķ

Why my luggage is never stolen, or, London Food Haul 2011

A continuation of the gallery from yesterday, in a way. This is all the stuff that I could carry in my checked-in luggage from that same trip back in 2011. Besides being deterred by my gaudily bright-pink-patterned suitcase set, I’m pretty sure that any would-be thief who peeked inside said suitcases and saw the¬†cumbersome pile of cheap foreign food items would just give up the situation as Totally Not Worth It. Except that it was totally worth it to me, given the difficulty in obtaining some of said items in our little corner of the country.

Yarn stash!

This gallery contains 16 photos.

Hey look, it’s Sunday again! That means I should be updating this blog ūüôā With spring right around the corner and a big move coming, I figured it was as good a time as any to inventory and catalog stuff before packing. I’d been doing a haphazard job of keeping track of my yarn stash on Ravelry already, so today that was cleaned and updated to more accurately reflect what’s going on in that big box of fluffy cat-bait. Luckily, my yarn collection has not had time to grow very much here in Finland. I’d only brought over a small ‚Ķ
