Accomplished.

Have finished directing all cloned placeholder journals (don’t tell me you guys didn’t go and reserve your name at every new blogging site back during the last few LJ scares) back to this one, and was even able to put up a nifty streaming widget on some of them to give a live feed of this place. I’m feelin’ all thorough today. In other news, have amused myself by uploading several different headers onto this main page and my WoW journal so that every time people load the page they will see a different graphic. This could very quickly get …

Here and there.

1. Have finally set up The Velvet Kerfuffle and migrated assorted journals over to it. Will continue posting to both LJ and there, of course, but feel much better having my own privately hosted version because this is nearing a decade’s worth of entries. Whew. Still filling in the spaces, but I think the hard parts are done. 2. Have two interviews coming up this week, one of which is for a position at a women’s clothing design place. I’m really REALLY crossing my fingers for that one, since it sounds nearly ideal. It’s a smaller but very busy company …

Sigh.

Dear Unnamed Mortgage Banking Company, If you want 3 to 4 years of experience in loans from your paper pushers, you should really mention it in your ad before you start accepting applications, book applicants, and have them drive out to meet you at the height of traffic. Just a thought. Ugh, A.

Sneaky Sock Thieves!

Tommi’s grandmother makes these wonderful hand-knitted wool socks for us every time we go visit her in Finland. They are really soft and warm and made in pretty colors and patterns. Exactly the sort of thing you’d imagine a rosy-cheeked Nordic grandmother sitting at home making on a winter’s night. I think we had collected five or six pairs between us. So this past Sunday, we had our first cleaning binge of the month and I did 11 loads of laundry while T tackled the bathroom and vacuuming. The laundry room is right next to us, but I have to …

Exile.

My computer blew up Sunday morning. Well, okay, it was more of a quiet fizzle. My graphics card, which had been ailing probably from the moment it arrived, quit working altogether and I was forced to send the whole machine in yesterday to get it replaced. Good news: it’s all covered by the warranty. Bad news: I only have computer access in the daytime when I hijack the boy’s laptop while he’s at work. Limited time, though, strangely equates to more productivity with the time I have. Quite a few changes are afoot here, both in RL and game life, …

War of the Coprophages

It’s official: we have roaches. Up until this year, I had never seen a house roach in my life. I mean, I’d seen those giant hissing South American things in zoos and in biology class, sure, but those were kinda cool in a detached exotic pet sort of way. They were fat, sedate, and sat on leaves in neat little plastic terrariums waiting for their owner to feed them every day from a box of manufactured bug food. But no, not these bastards. About a month ago, we found one on the kitchen wall — more than an inch long. …

The cleaning I didn’t even know I needed.

For the longest time I was feeling daunted and procrastinatory towards reading the friendslist because it was this huge behemoth of a thing and “catching up” entailed going through it all as far back as possible, then reading through each individual person’s blog when the “back5000000 posts” option failed. I started, then would stop and wander off, then come back, get scared, and wandered off again. But I’ve always felt that if people took the time to read your posts, they deserve the same, so I was determined to get through them. I might have a mild masochistic streak. Just …

Either you’re in or you’re out. Or, y’know, lurking.

I know I should have asked to be taken off the class mailing list after I dropped earlier this quarter, but there’s something terribly amusing about getting emails labeled “From: andrae gonzalo” every week. Even his writing is flamboyant! Hee. On the first day of class, he wrote “Office Hours”, then crossed out “Office” and put “Happy” instead. 🙂 Ah, well, the term’s almost over and then it’ll be moot. Hey, when does the new season of Project Runway start, anyway?

A post about food and drink.

Being limited to a student income of odd jobs and projects, I’ve always been one to leap at any consumer testing panel opportunities that might present themselves. One just happened to last week, in the form of a company looking for women who drink Vitamin Water but not Propel. They offered to pay me $100 for an hour’s worth of questions, and I gladly accepted. I was going to be in LA for something else that morning anyways. So I arrive early, am seated, am agreeably talkative, and fill out the questionnaires we were given for the first half of …
