A new addition.

So after years of prodding, my good friend Sassy has started playing WoW again! She had a trial account that previously expired, but hopefully it’ll stick this time around. We started her off as a paladin, figuring it was the most versatile and durable for a beginner. And because we’ll hopefully be able to train her as a raid healer as time goes by 😉 Took her for a tour through Eastern Kingdoms on my flying rocket this morning and managed to ding her from just exploration and picking up flight points. Will try to get through most of Kalimdor …

Breakaway is 1 year old!

This gallery contains 11 photos.

Yeah, this is quite a bit late. But like any good party, it takes a while to get over the hangover 😉 On Monday, April 20th, the good members of Breakaway gathered at the Temple of Storms to celebrate their first anniversary. Cupcakes and cider were enjoyed by all, naked duels were staged, Pablo found his new calling as a club DJ, the first annual Guildie Awards were held, and many a guild photo was snapped. Here are the screenshots!

I’ve Been a Bad, Bad Ghoul.

He appeared out of nowhere on a lazy January evening, and forever changed the way we would see ghouls. Well, okay, let me rephrase that. 1. We’re not entirely sure if it’s a he or a she, it’s hard to tell when everything’s rotted off. The undead are funny that way. 2. I suppose that to be more accurate, it appeared out of a handful of corpse dust. Or possibly one of our dead guildies. 3. It was only lazy that evening because a good percentage of the raid spent part of the time wiping the floor with their faces. …

Stayin’ Alive.

Hausen and Novaz dance in synch while Galena provides counterpoint. Ghouran on vocals. Still fresh into magical level 70 and partying in the Mechanar (normal mode!), back when staying alive was an achievement in itself. Today’s screencap is a blast from the past courtesy of some reminiscing we were doing over Vent these past few nights. Cutting through heroics like warmed butter these days and bopping down achievements along the way, it’s nice to stop and think about the first few times we set foot into a dungeon on heroic difficulty… and wiped repeatedly. Ah, those were the days. But …

For the Alliance!

Last night, 35 members of Breakaway and our closest friends completed the For the Alliance! achievement in truly epic style. Thanks to the hard work of raid organizer Takarakasai, fearless tank-and-army-of-one Saladriel, Darkvail‘s small but invincible team of healers, double agent and insider scout Novaz, the mostly unerring compass-like abilities of Chaoschain, and the devious scheduling machinations of Hausen, we charged our way through four Horde cities and ended the raid sitting pretty on Black War Bears pulled from a mailbox planted on the still-warm corpse of Bloodhoof. We began the evening by staging in front of Darnassus bank, where …

Boomkins know where the party’s at.

Yesterday was one of those epic nights where everything seemed to come together and before we knew it, we’d spent over seven hours with the same people cleaning out multiple raid instances because we were having too much fun (or too drunk) to stop. If I was back at university, last night would have been one of those nights where we started out at the neighborhood bar, club-hopped our way down Sunset Boulevard, had an early morning dinner at Mel’s, then crashed at somebody’s place giggling until dawn. And, as luck would have it, my druid was the lucky little …

That’s not a mask, that’s his face.

Some people like to have costume parties. Here at Breakaway, we like to have costume raids. Wearing the same old tier gear gets boring, y’know? Touring the heroics of Tempest Keep as the Grateful Undead. Pirates versus Ninjas day in Karazhan! Including an all-pirate dancing male revue! And just recently, dancing dwarves took over Naxx 🙂

Breakaway clears 10-man Naxxramas!

On the evening of February 9th, Breakaway cleared 10-man Naxxramas for the first time. We’ve been working at this place for a month and a half now, making steady progress as we learned the fights and geared up our guildies. With barely any experience of the pre-WotLK Naxx, this was truly a new undertaking where we went in cold and scrabbled our way up through practice, determination, and LOTS of repair bills. Considering that the 10-man version has been said to be more difficult than the 25-man relative to the number of players, this is quite the accomplishment. Everybody who …

Breakaway clears 4 Naxx wings & Sapphiron

Oh, and in other news? Yeah, we killed Sapphiron. Last week’s attempt didn’t go well, thanks to the crazy double damage bug that wiped our raid in record time. This week, post-hotfix, we go in and nearly one-shot him on our first try. A bit of bad luck (random blizzard spawning above our “safe spot”) wiped us at 1%, but we then hopped right back in and killed him shortly thereafter. We peeked in on Kel’Thuzad and gave him a couple of good tries, but it was very late so we soon had to call it. We’ll be going back …
