Dude, we’re having a flash thunderstorm. No, no, you don’t understand. It’s July in SoCal. This is. Weird. And to think, for the past two hours, I was totally convinced that the rumbling was just coming from Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm doing their fireworks shows. *blink, stares out the window in confusion*
So I’m reading this fic which is supposedly set in LA and it’s going along great when I stumble upon a scene where the characters make a run to the deli. And, like, it’s a deli with stocked shelves of packaged food, a magazine rack, cooling units, etc. They were able to buy normal name-brand groceries there, in the evening, when most little shops in the city proper close at dusk, streets vacated, the entire deal. And that made me blink. Because I’m not sure if it’s been something that’s been brought up before, but when you say “deli” to …
ROTFLMAO. A new TV series about Orange County. An exciting new hour-long Fox drama. About here. *topples off chair howling in laughter*
Beds of rampant impatiens and phlox, a happy-looking stand of large-flowered callas, an ambitiously expanding brugmansia in the front yard, a constant supply of fresh grapefruit in the back yard, several rows of tomatoes already starting to fruit (it’s been unseasonably warm), and rose bushes that can’t really be called bushes because they’re growing to well over 7 feet as they don’t need to be cut down for the winter. The freesias and daffodils are already starting to make their appearances and the goldfish in the water garden tub have been giving each other amorous looks. *That*, folks, is why …
We went to a sea lion rescue yesterday and watched a bunch of the pudgy flippered critters flop around in plastic pools and nuzzle each other. It was fun. There was one sassy little pup that made goat noises at the little blonde girl that kept running by. Then the elephant seal pup burped and wailed, managing to traumatize certain individuals in the process. The rescue was next to the cat shelter, the dog park, and the custom Jeep lot. And the place that only makes dulcimers. We’re wacky that way.
So it’s pretty obvious that we go to the movies a lot. (“”) We mostly blame it on being Southern Californians. It also happens that I’m the type that saves every single stub to every film and event I’ve ever attended. So when the annual film rundown lists started popping up, I thought it’d be fun to post ours as well, since it turned out to be rather impressive. In size, if not in quality. Heh. Merely the ones we saw upon initial release to theaters, not the ones we saw later in rentals. Because what’s the fun of that? …
Little worm carcasses everywhere after a rain are so depressing. If I’m up early enough in the mornings, I usually try to get them back to the soil before the sun comes and fries them. Today, though, was an all-out massacre. My parents have a rather large garden, so it was like trying to carry a city out on your back. You’d think they would have managed to evolve some sort of emergency-gills or something, especially in places where they *know* there’s annual flooding. Bah. No hungry birds today.
Dude, everybody seems to be all about the gingerbread lattes this week. How come nobody has mentioned the fabulosity of white chocolate ice blendeds at Coffee Bean, though? Well, now they have. So there. 🙂
I love SoCal. So the World Series tickets went on sale yesterday. They had the SWAT teams out to control the crowds because they were afraid there’d be riots. Somehow, that makes me all warm and fuzzy.
Hey, all you SoCalers… question for those of you that were awake at 5ish this morning? Was there a giant boom that might have been a space shuttle landing, or was I just hallucinating? Just wondering.
