Status update (aka An Ode to Gaviscon)

Okay, let’s see… what’s going on these days? Well, as you may have noticed if you’ve landed here, I’ve decided to consolidate all my various blogs into one big one. Easier to do now with the spiffy new magazine layouts than it was a few years  back. 2013 done, only a gazillion more years to go 😛 I’m taking the opportunity to clean up links, better organize categories and properly tag photos, so who knows when that will be done. Good thing I’m in an especially OCD frame of mind these days. Offline, pretty much the same story. I noticed …

Mission Statement of Sorts

I have an “about” page up on this blog (it’s that little tab in the upper left corner there, next to “home” and “links”). Given, none of those pages have really been updated for a couple years so I should probably think about that at some point. Anyway. What I didn’t realize was that it is apparently now necessary to have a mission statement and disclaimer as well. This is a personal blog. It isn’t a site for original or bootlegged recipes, I post pretty much whatever and whenever I feel like it, I am not a professional at anything …

So it all started when…

About five years ago, we brought home this grey ball of fluff from the Irvine Animal Shelter. It was friendly and purred a lot and was generally very sweet. Then, around midnight, it would morph into an energetic ball of mayhem and tear through the apartment. We didn’t get much sleep those nights. Finally, the hubby sat up one night and was like, ‘OMG, what’s WRONG with it?!?!’ To which I replied, ‘Nothing, it’s just being an amazing flying pigmonkey.’ And that kinda stuck. The flying monkey because, well, we all know how crazy and evil they are. The flying …

Facelift, the second.

Two blogs down, two more to go 🙂 The best part of fixing this stuff up is finding new pictures to put in the rotating headers, I think. I nearly doubled the area for graphics by cleaning up the extraneous texty stuff up there. Given, it isn’t really friendly to anybody with screens under 1280, but it’s been a LONG time since I’ve met anybody running something like that. Also, I just heard that WordPress 4.0 is coming out soonish? That freakin’ terrifies me. Might just have to clone a blog just to test out the new update, in case …

Renovation is in the air…

All the wallpapering and painting happening in our new house has put me in the mood to spruce up other areas of my life as well. Including my blog network, which I’d been getting more dissatisfied with by the week, but never got around to doing anything about. That is, until a few page-crashing bugs made it necessary for me to muck with the databases and code anyway. So I gave this baby a facelift while I was at it! Haven’t really altered the format much since I uploaded it 3 years ago, so it feels all new and shiny! …

Contemplation and changes afoot.

So I’ve been doing a bit of thinking about my online writing habits. Lately, I’ve gotten a bit burned out on the 20-or-more-posts-per-month minimum that I imposed upon myself for this blog earlier in the year, in an effort to get back into the habit of writing and posting. I actually kept to it for 3.5 months, and it definitely helped to get me back in a more creative frame of mind. Like any extreme diet (creative or culinary), however, something eventually had to give. It got to that point probably last month, when I was starting being too concerned …

Because I’m an obsessive organizer.

I forgot where I read it, but somebody once wrote about how they set up their scheduling for blog posts to accommodate the multiple blogs they run. Now I find myself planning out the same thing. I like to average around 25 posts a month on this particular blog, but would like to still have time to update the other ones as well. Last month didn’t really count because I was just getting back into the groove of things and had a huge backlog to throw out all at once. This month, though, I’ve got to sit down and think …

Expunged!

Ha! Finally found the buggy plug-in that was causing the rest of my crossposting PIs to not work. Shame on you, Twitter Blog 🙁 So if anybody else is wondering why their LJ Xposter or Wordbooker is going all wonky, that’s where I’m pointing my finger. In the meantime, I’ll just do a little dance of joy for not having to go mucking into any code. Because, ew.

A few years late to the party…

Eeep! I just discovered that I can subscribe to RSS feeds on my Thunderbird. Which, y’know, I’d been using for years. Yes, all that time that I was grumbling over Google reader, I could have just been getting my friendslists and blogrolls sent to me with my email. *facepalm* However, I have remedied this in one fell swoop today. Okay, a two hour fell swoop, but now I’ve got all my LJ friends on digest and I can finally keep track of all my reading in a much neater and more efficient way. VERY excited, since clicking on ten million …
