Starting Anew.

So, this is our first week here in our new Finnish digs and I’ve got an entire kitchen to stock. Just about the only things on the shelves were sugar, salt, and half a packet of vegetable stock cubes. Sigh.

I was trying to explain to the boy this morning how tedious and expensive this can be — of course, I did all the shopping for our last pantry so he never really experienced that particular pleasure. Still, I do look forward to being more selective in my purchases so I don’t end up with those inevitable bottles of crap that I won’t use (except on bad potluck casseroles) and am too cheap to throw out.

One of the things I’m most excited about is my new magnetic spice rack (ordered through German because I can’t seem to find the things anywhere else locally), which will serve both as refrigerator art and handy storage devices!

Before and after photos to come, when there is an after…

  1. I’m glad you made it there safely! The magnetic spice rack sounds amazing and very convenient… minus the fact that you had to order it online. I hope the rest of getting settled in goes well. Can’t wait to see the before and after pictures. I also just realized I don’t have your blog bookmarked (followed the link from facebook). I’ll be bookmarking it now and reading more as I try to replace seeing you with reading you. šŸ™‚

  2. Thank you! It came this morning! I’m very excited because I’ve wanted one for ages. I would have had to order it online in the US, too… the only time I ever saw them was once, years ago, at IKEA. Haven’t been able to find them in a store since and was obsessing over them, especially when I started getting a sizable spice collection. There aren’t as many fast food joints or restaurants out here, but there is a huge grocery store right next door, so I really hope to take my cooking skills to the next level šŸ™‚ Now I have to go out and buy spices to fill them…!

And hey, thanks for stopping by! We got our computer setup figured out so I can finally have all my peripherals up and running again, which means I’ll be on the computer more now. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’ve split my blog entries into four sub-blogs because I’m just an organizational freak. This one is for food/cooking, then there’s a fashion one, a gaming (WoW mostly) one, and a general one (which ends up being mostly about cats. heh.) Do you mostly use Facebook or do you write stuff anywhere else, too?
