Crash.

So the thing about Southern California is that you can always count on seeing a really spectacular car accident every other day or so. It’s sort of taken for granted here that the majority of us will at some point or another end up in one. We go to our cars fatalistically each morning and run that gambit, much like the way people in hurricane country wait out those inevitable storms. Still, the one I encountered this morning on the way to the grocery store was a real five-star winner. Taking up five lanes of traffic takes some doing. And …

War of the Coprophages

It’s official: we have roaches. Up until this year, I had never seen a house roach in my life. I mean, I’d seen those giant hissing South American things in zoos and in biology class, sure, but those were kinda cool in a detached exotic pet sort of way. They were fat, sedate, and sat on leaves in neat little plastic terrariums waiting for their owner to feed them every day from a box of manufactured bug food. But no, not these bastards. About a month ago, we found one on the kitchen wall — more than an inch long. …

A post about food and drink.

Being limited to a student income of odd jobs and projects, I’ve always been one to leap at any consumer testing panel opportunities that might present themselves. One just happened to last week, in the form of a company looking for women who drink Vitamin Water but not Propel. They offered to pay me $100 for an hour’s worth of questions, and I gladly accepted. I was going to be in LA for something else that morning anyways. So I arrive early, am seated, am agreeably talkative, and fill out the questionnaires we were given for the first half of …

Life.

So I started the summer with four courses, which I had planned to keep since I really REALLY wanted to graduate by the end of the year. Then the Europe trip came along and took two weeks with it. Then the chance to move the hell out of my parents’ house came along and that was that. Erm, so I guess I’m taking summer term off. The academic counseling office doesn’t know this yet, because I’m still enrolled in two of those courses and plan to keep my name on the rollsheet until they end. Then the computers simply won’t …

The post of “What the…?!”

Because some things are strange enough to share. My brother’s bathroom. He claims that he bought them as an experiment, to see which flavors were most popular with his guests. The fact remains, however, that I have never seen any other guy with this many bath gels, cheap or not. — So we went into Chick-Fil-A one day to get lunch. And pass right by what I think is a bigger-than-life stuffed cow statue next to the doorway. THEN THE THING MOVES. I jump a few inches and eye it with much alarm. Y’see, it isn’t quite cartoonish enough to …

Snippets.

Driving home from class Friday afternoon… pierydys: *brakes suddenly* videl_bishoujo: Eh? pierydys: NUN! *points to old lady in full black dress and huge wimple crossing in front of the car* videl_bishoujo: Yes, so it is. pierydys: Nun! videl_bishoujo: And…? pierydys: Well, not just your everyday nun. That was a hard core nun. With flowy long habit and the whole deal. videl_bishoujo: As opposed to…? pierydys: Well, these days you don’t usually see them fully done up like that. They wear stuff that’s shorter, hipper. Y’know, nun casual. videl_bishoujo: I’m not listening to anymore of this conversation. pierydys: Well, when was …

Work it.

So those of you that are into _Project Runway_ know that Tim Gunn (aka the headmaster Dumbledore of the fashion world), has a new book out, “A Guide to Quality, Taste and Style“. Naturally, the book tour took him by our school for Q&A and signing. There were posters plastered all over campus and even professors were encouraging us to go. However, since the event was scheduled to happen during my Friday class, I had already resigned myself to missing it and having to drive to a much more inconvenient appearance later on. Not so, it turned out!
