Pride and Prejudice (Keira version) review.

Hmm. Just finished watching the Keira Knightley Pride and Prejudice and am feeling very ambivalent about it. Which I knew would be the case from the moment I heard they were going to be making it a few years back. I’m very devoted to the 1995 BBC miniseries, which was not only true to the spirit and dialogue of the book, but also had the time and scope to give a very long book the coverage it deserved. This was obviously not possible in a 2-hour Hollywood film, so I was just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. …

PS to my last post.

And while I do admit that I can mostly be classified under “the mindless masses” these days, as far as my movie-going preferences go, I do sometimes wonder if they’re not having more fun than the people who are reading so much hype over the course of the year, whilst anticipating a movie, that they’re bound to wind themselves up to breaking point. The _Snakes on a Plane_ syndrome, if you will. Sure, I was there at Comic-Con last year when they showed the new footage, and I cheered along with the rest of that crowd of uber-fen. But then …

Spiderman 3, a Retrospective. In dairy-vision.

So. Spidey 3. Saw it last night. Yes, it was cheese. Huge cheese. And sure, the acting, lines and plot were… well, comic. But then, who ever accused the last two of being high art? Okay, I suppose I should back up a bit. After reading various reviews on LJ over the weekend, I was a bit apprehensive about going to the showing we had purchased tickets for Sunday evening. In IMAX. Because if it was going to be head-poundingly bad on a regular screen, what unknowable pain were we signing ourselves up for in large format? Like in most …

Cursed be ye!

Guess who just skipped away from work today with an armload of Pirates of the Caribbean loot, including the double-sided four-paneled promotional movie poster that takes up a whole wall? *g* I might just have squeaked like an overly-excitable terrier this morning when I saw somebody walk by with a rolled-up poster, so next thing I know, the guy is coming back with a couple more and plopping them at our station with a “shhh!” and a grin. *does happy dance* It’s ever so pretty. And large. Now, if only I could figure out where to hang it…

2002 Movie Review

So it’s pretty obvious that we go to the movies a lot. (“”) We mostly blame it on being Southern Californians. It also happens that I’m the type that saves every single stub to every film and event I’ve ever attended. So when the annual film rundown lists started popping up, I thought it’d be fun to post ours as well, since it turned out to be rather impressive. In size, if not in quality. Heh. Merely the ones we saw upon initial release to theaters, not the ones we saw later in rentals. Because what’s the fun of that? …

Hee. So my cubicle is in the back corner of the block furthest away from my supervisor and none of the other people who are my immediate neighbors are here today. I have a fast connection and a happy computer. There is very little in my inbox to do and I need to make it last for the entire day. I have to sound like I’m typing because that obviously means I’m being productive. So that I can be paid to update my LJ. Sometimes, work is cool. In other news, multi-packs of little boys’ cartoon-emblazoned briefs ROCK. Besides being …

Still no cable connection, but a technician will hopefully fix that this week. Yesterday, after posting, I came up with a plan to veto badness for the rest of the weekend. Because you know how you always hear that if you smile even when you’re feeling like crap, eventually the chemicals released from keeping your face in that smiley position will make you feel better? Something like that. And it must have worked on some karmic level because today was quite happy. Quickie movie rundown? Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course: Amusing as all heck. Terri’s “Nuts!” Steve’s running commentary in the …

Picks n’ Pans Addendum

Scooby Doo: So, like, we saw this Friday night and I apparently forgot by the next morning. So much so that it totally did not cross my mind to write about it in the rundown before I was reminded. So I guess this means that it, uh, didn’t leave much of an impression. I mean, it was okay. It was perfect summer fare. It amused, it was visually fun (those sets must’ve been so much fun) and… I dunno, it just didn’t do anything for me. *shrug* Maybe it was just the overdose of CGI that did it? Maybe it …
