Redux Somerset

Could I? Should I? Can I? Do I really feel up to another month of cows, pizza, limited phone access, and vegetating in hotel rooms? Is there a chance that if I say yes this early on, it might be possible to actually plan enough so this would go efficiently and on-budget? And why should I even care if they do or not? This is completely unrelated to our last project. Of course I don’t have any obligation. Of course. Sigh. The East Coast is pretty in late September, isn’t it?

*appears in a puff of glitter* Peek. A. BOO! 😉 Things have been hectic. More detailed report later. We went to Amish country yesterday and I bought blueberry honey and apple butter. Mmm. And pumpkin gobs. And then we saw lots of furry and feathery creatures which just don’t exist out in California. And lots of historical buildings like the old jail that had trap doors for hangings. And… and… I’m babbling, aren’t I? We’re doing a bathroom scene right now and there’s no room for me to fit in there to watch, so I’m futzing around on the puter …

23.07 EST, 05/08/2001 First day of shooting is always insanely busy. This was no different. 13 hours, total, I think. Not as bad as some, but still much further over schedule than we’d originally planned. Things will get better as we get into a rhythm, though. And with two and a half more weeks of this, we’d better get into *something*. Today I got promoted to assistant script supervisor in addition to makeup, hair, child wrangler, production, medic and… yes, honorary boom operator. Yeah, our crew is kinda short-handed, what gave you that idea? 😉 It’s neat in that I …

20.35 EST, 05/07/2001 The associate producer, Ed, drove me and Jamie, one of the actresses, into Johnstown today to get Amtrak tickets for when we’re leaving later this month. Johnstown, the largest ‘city’ around here other than Pittsburgh, is primarily known for having gone through some gigantic flood in the 19th century which wiped out almost all of the building. This wouldn’t be very hard to do, considering the city is bordered by three rivers, like Pittsburgh. It was neat to see all these bridges, rivers and colonial houses everywhere, though, because there’s no such thing back in SoCal. I …

18.54 EST, 05/06/2001 We had another straight reading today followed by a bit of workshopping for the actors. The rest of the crew, the director of photography and his assistant, the co-screenwriter, and the main child actor, arrived today, too, so we’re all set to go as first day of shooting draws nearer. To celebrate, we drove down to this steakhouse called Hoss’s, apparently a popular place out here. We saw some pretty large slabs of cow being served up, but our particular table settled for the salad bar mostly. Most of the other tables were occupied by large people …

17.01 EST, 05/05/2001 We did a straight read-through of the script today with the actors and it sounds pretty promising. One of the leads sounds a bit wooden, but that could easily work out as everybody gets more into their parts. One of the actresses is going to spend the next three days walking around with a forty-pound backpack strapped to her front so she can get into her pregnant character’s mindset. The other girl is starting to hang out at the hotel bars with the locals to try to get her regional accent down. We considered going down to …

18.44 EST, 05/04/2001 To all the sweet people who leave replies to these posts, I’ll be responding to you via private mail because it’s much too hard to post a million different replies on the bulletin boards when I only have a tiny amount of time on-line every other day or so. I’m still reading entries from all of your journals, though, to know what’s going on with all of you. It’s a pretty yucky situation, but I suppose it could be worse. At least most of the crew understands the reasoning behind why I carry this thing around with …

So it’s official, I’m going to Pennsylvania. The ticket’s sitting right here. For a whole month. Three weeks on the shoot and another week with dev. I arrive in Pittsburgh the night of May 3rd and will wander around the airport waiting for men I’ve never met to approach me and say they’ll pick me up and put me to work. Sounds like a plan. In other news, I am annoyed. I’m annoyed at a variety of things. I’m annoyed at the postal service for not being cheaper and faster. I’m annoyed at myself for not remembering this sooner. And …

Urrrrgh.

The errands never end. Last night was spent at Sheila’s doing some of my tax forms… okay, so we actually spent only half an hour on those and another five hours watching television. Fair warning, never let me near one of those blasted machines. After fighting morning traffic back to my apartment, spent another hour haggling with the bank and my ISP to get back the money that they’d collectively tried to swindle from me through a series of complicated (but mistaken) charges, overcharges, and surcharges. That solved, I must now venture back into the city to find a federal …

Entr’acte

So I’m sitting around trying to decide what to do next with myself, since I’m done with one project and kind of “missed” an interview yesterday which probably would have landed me another project in the very near future. Decided to start paging through stuff outside of Los Angeles, figuring, “Hey, why not try to find something in Pennsylvania so I can be in the area by next month for the concert everybody’s going to?” Start paging through some film industry ads and come upon a job starting up in early May that would last for three weeks, which means …
