Valio Onni Pear and Peach Purees

So when we started transitioning to solids with Blob (we are going with that as the nickname used for this blog, since it gets used frequently around the house and “Megasuck” is just too long to type every time — even if he isn’t particularly blobby anymore) at 4 months old, I was mostly going off of my mother-in-law’s advice and whatever I managed to glean from the baby forums online. Even though I’d been planning to wait until 6 months, Blob’s insistence on grabbing food out of my hand and stuffing it in his mouth convinced me that maybe we …

Adventures in online shopping.

So yeah, I don’t get nearly enough time online these days but when I do, it’s usually only in 10-15 minutes segments and requires that I browse stuff that is easily left at the spur of the moment should there be any crying in the other room. This has resulted in my becoming a big fan of window-shopping online. There’s lots of cute stuff out there. And lots of weird stuff, too. Right, so I realize there is a justifiable reason why this product exists. I mean, I get tired of holding bottles at 2AM, just like everybody else. And …

Ways to traumatize your infant.

How many of you guys remember that episode of X-Files with the icky fluke guy who had a leech-like mouth and lived in the sewers? Yeah. So I’m browsing through a site with baby paraphernalia, as I am wont to do these days, and I see this: Seriously, please tell me I’m not the only one that sees the resemblance. Maybe it’s just a particularly bad angle, but this thing terrified me when I scrolled by it. Are there people out there who really give this to their child so that baby can look like he’s French kissing a menacing …

Lush Oatifix Fresh Face Mask

This, you guys, is awesome stuff. Remember those OMGHIVESONMYFACE moments I talked about a while back? Yeah, I had one recently while testing out an as-yet-to-be-reviewed serum. Like, seriously, I ended up giving myself an unintentional chemical peel, my face was so blotchy, red and gross. Like a sunburn, only I hadn’t really been outside enough for one of those. Given, I suspect this was the result of pregnancy-related oversensitivity, hence why I haven’t officially reviewed the product that caused it yet. So anyway, there I was, staring at the mirror and wondering what I could possibly do to …

Maison Belle Laundry Softness

This is the stuff I’ve been using as laundry softener lately. I saw it on the shelf while I was pricing ingredients to make my own laundry detergents and softeners, and thought I’d give it a try, as a stepping stone away from the bottles of chemicals I’ve been buying. Not that I find anything particularly wrong with many of those bigger brands, and I will happily go back to them if my experimentation (still in the very beginning stages) in homemade detergent ends up being an epic fail. It’s just that we have to be more careful than most about …

Lush Full of Grace Facial Serum

This funny-looking thing is a facial serum, Lush’s Full of Grace. It is probably the most un-serumy serum I’ve ever tried, and actually the first one that I’ve gone to the bother of purchasing on my own. It was probably the unorthodox presentation that led me to buy it in the first place, since I tend to have magpie tendencies for cosmetics in odd formats. The ingredients list sounded interesting, too – murumuru and cupuacu butters (like palm and cocoa butter, but not), calamine, rose petal infusion, almond oil, rose oil and portabello mushrooms. Mushrooms, really? They say it has skin-protecting vitamins and …

Shower upgrades.

Look what I finally installed in our shower last month! I’ve wanted one of these types of dispensers for years, but didn’t want to permanently attach anything to the walls of a rental place. They remind me of spas and hotels and keep everything so clutter-free. Added bonus? I’ve been using facial masks in the shower lately, so having buttons to press is immensely convenient, because I can access shampoo and conditioner without having to fumble around in the rack for specific bottles which I can’t see properly since I don’t want to open my eyes and get stuff running …

Kenzo Flower Tag

I rarely mention cosmetics and toiletries here, despite my having a serious weakness for wandering into places like Sephora and leaving with a bag of impulse purchases. So yes, going to start talking about them a bit here, if only so I can recall later on which ones worked and which ones didn’t. In fact, I think the only time I wrote about a perfume here was that one post when I was so offended by Angel that I had to get it off my chest. Well, you know what they say about how much easier it is to write …

Hotel Chocolat’s Cocoa Juvenate Hand & Body Lotion

This stuff has been my lotion obsession for the past year. At £17 for a 290mL bottle, it’s probably not the best habit for my pocketbook, but it just makes me so happy whenever I use it. Still less guilt-inducing than when I occasionally cave for a bottle of Molton Brown, I suppose. I first ran across it when we were out in London last spring for a friend’s wedding. We stopped into Hotel Chocolat to get some gifts for family and friends and I was surprised to find that they had started making a bath and body product line. I …
